The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity, while tackling climate change and environmental protection. To follow the claim, more and more countries notice the importance of environmental protection and take actions to make it possible. Reducing energy consumption has become a call to arms for governments and energy producers as they scramble to secure alternative fuel sources. Decarbonization is becoming a new trend nowadays, so more producers begin to seek a material which can be used to replace the carbon to meet the request the highly excellent absorbency. That is, Diatomaceous Earth (DE).
Graplife persuit providing "Environmentally Friendly, Energy-Saving, Practical and Good Products" to more customers in the earth village. Graplife has been in the field of eco-friendly furniture for 20 years. We are seeking to going global and bringing our green and functional products to the citizens around the world so we Join in the international call to contribute to sustainable development--we choose an eco-friendly material to make the highly absorbent bath mat, this kind of material is the Diatomaceous Earth.
What is Diatomaceous Earth?
Diatomaceous earth, diatomite or kieselgur/kieselguhr is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock. Unlike other inorganic non-metallic minerals such as bentonite, chlorite, zeolite, etc., it is of organic origin that can be crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder. It has a particle size ranging from more than 3 mm to less than 1 μm, but typically 10 to 200 μm. Depending on the granularity, this powder can have an abrasive feel, similar to pumice powder, and has a low density as a result of its high porosity. The typical chemical composition of oven-dried diatomaceous earth is 80–90% silica, with 2–4% alumina (attributed mostly to clay minerals), and 0.5–2% iron oxide.
Since the material component of diatomaceous earth is mainly diatoms, a type of hard-shelled microalgae, its mineral composition is amorphous opal - diatom opal, which is different from natural silica colloid - opal, and is a special mineral of organic origin, and the Si02 of diatoms is not pure aqueous silicon oxide, but a unique silicon oxide, diatomaceous silicon oxide. Many of the properties and uses of diatomaceous earth are related to its special mineral structure and the special structural configuration of the diatom shell formed by the unique silicon oxide. Diatomaceous earth consists of is used as a filtration aid, mild abrasive in products including metal polishes and toothpaste, mechanical insecticide, absorbent for liquids, matting agent for coatings, reinforcing filler in plastics and rubber, anti-block in plastic films, porous support for chemical catalysts, cat litter, activator in coagulation studies, a stabilizing component of dynamite, a thermal insulator, and a soil for potted plants and trees as in the art of bonsai.
Why choose Diatomaceous Earth?
Due to a series of excellent characteristics such as lightweight, porous, high-strength, wear-resistant, insulating, heat-insulating, adsorbent and chemically stable, the economic value of Diatomaceous Earth is extremely high. The surface of diatom particles has countless tiny pores, with a porosity of over 90% and a specific surface area of 65㎡/g. This outstanding molecular lattice structure determines its strong physical adsorption and ion exchange properties.
Where can you find Diatomaceous Earth?
Diatom photosynthesis produces as much organic carbon each year as all the rain forests on earth, so diatoms play a very important role in the global carbon cycle. In modern industry, processed diatom, is widely used in metallurgy, chemical industry, electric power, agriculture, fertilizer, building materials insulation products and other industries.
(1)Filter aid is one of the main products of diatomaceous earth, at present There are three categories of diatomaceous earth filter aids, they are dry products, calcined products and solvent calcined products, and more than ten varieties.
(2)Diatomaceous earth mixed with rubber and plastic products, can significantly improve their elasticity and strength, with anti-corrosion, seepage resistance, wear resistance and flame retardant effect. It can improve the performance of rubber products in terms of heat resistance, abrasion resistance, aging resistance and other chemical effects, and make plastic products have Excellent extensibility, high impact strength, tensile strength, tear strength, anti-aging, good wear resistance, good compressive strength and other aspects of the role.
(3)Diatomaceous earth can be used in paper industry to increase the area of scattering interface of paper to light, improve opacity, overcome the phenomenon of translucent paper in the printing process, make paper smooth, light weight, good strength, reduce the expansion caused by changes in humidity; in cigarette paper can adjust the burning rate without any toxic side effects; in filter paper can improve the clarity of filtrate and speed up the filtration speed. At the same time, it can replace expensive fillers such as titanium dioxide and zinc sulfate.
Diatomaceous earth is mainly used in cosmetics, mainly for powder cosmetics, mainly to cover, slip, adhesion, absorption, ductility: good adhesion to the skin, sebum inhibition and sweat, oil absorption; has a strong covering power, low UV transmission rate, is an important covering agent, and with other ingredients with good performance, no mutual exclusion phenomenon, can be used as a suspension agent for emulsion products.
Anyway, diatomaceous earth is helpful and beneficial and has applications in many fields. The introduction of diatomaceous earth has become the obvious choice for families who are conscious of quality and healthy living.
Graplife Stone Bath Mat is a unique product that combines diatomaceous earth with natural minerals to create a highly absorbent, non-slip, and quick-drying bath mat. The mat is made up of tiny particles that trap moisture and keep your feet dry, while also providing a firm grip to prevent slips and falls in the bathroom.
We willl talk about Graplife bath mat in the next share. Wish everyone enjoy a green and high quality of life.
